As much as we love this crazy sport, we got to face it… it’s dangerous!
Planning and practicing for emergencies is challenging to do on your own, so often people look to courses and certifications to get that knowledge. However, we recognize that not everyone has the time or money to take a full wilderness first aid and swiftwater rescue course. This often leads to kayakers being out on the river under-trained in rescues and not prepared for emergencies when their friends are in danger. In this jam packed weekend course we pick and choose the most essential first aid and river rescue techniques that relate specifically to whitewater kayaking.
With swiftwater rescue instructor Jonah Shaw teaching the river rescue side of things, and our own Russell Henry pulling from his background as a paramedic and ski patroller teaching the first aid side you can expect a weekend full of learning, challenging scenarios and good times to get you set to be a safer kayaker. Special guest Dr. Erin Board will also tune in from afar to share her incredible insight into drownings and CPR for kayakers.
This course is designed for recreational paddlers that want to gain the knowledge, skills, and practice required to feel confident on the river when things go sideways.
This course typically begins Friday evening and wraps up Sunday afternoon.
